The old market hall
Opened in 1889, it is the oldest market in Helsinki. Phil meets Marcus Herskinin, owner of the Story Cafe, and proceeds to try many things for the first time. Cheese dipped in coffee, reindeer charcuterie, bear salame… all delicious!

Löyly
Actor Jasper Pääkkönen hosts Phil at his restaurant and sauna, Loyly. They enjoy an environmentally sustainable take on a traditional homestyle Finnish salmon soup, replacing salmon with trout.

Sauna Boat
Phil meets food writer Kenneth Nars on a sauna boat for a shvitz and a snack! Kenneth gives Phil a “sauna sausage” (a sausage cooked in the sauna fire), and a charcuterie board filled with Finnish snacks.

Kot Kot Truck
For lunch, Phil goes to Kim Mikkola’s fried chicken food truck, Kot. After working at Noma, Kim wanted to make delicious food that wouldn’t break the bank. So he opened this food truck that only sells one thing: a perfect fried chicken sandwich with their signature “naughty sauce”!

Sibelius Park
Phil takes a walk around the beautiful Sibelius Park to see the massive 600-pipe sculpture dedicated to Jean Sibelius. A warning: don’t stick your head in the sculpture!

Snake Island
Phil joins up with Antti Zetterberg, editor of Kalastus magazine, on his speedboat for a fishing trip to Snake Island. They catch some lunch and roast it on a fire pit in a public cabin. The cabin is government funded, so anybody visiting can use it!
Cafe Regatta
Chef and television personality Sara La Fountain takes Phil to the charming Cafe Regatta for coffee and pastries by the fire. Phil tries a finnish pastry called a butter eye, or voisilmäpulla.

Phil goes to dinner at Tommi Tuominen’s Michelin star restaurant: Finnjavel. Tommi elevates a dish that is normally considered so bad that it was voted out of Finland’s school cafeteria program, and turns into a world class dining experience.

Lonna
Phil meets Sanna Marin, the prime minister of Finland, on the island of Lonna for a coffee. This small island is one of hundreds just off of the coast of Helsinki, and has one small cafe.

Savoy
Opened in 1937, Savoy is an institution of Helsinki. Head chef Helena Puolakka serves up their most traditional dish, a chopped herring dish called vorschmack, which basically translates to “appetizer”.

For his last meal, Phil is joined by all of his friends from Helsinki for a bbq feast at B-Smokery. If you’re craving American style bbq, the ribs, brisket, and sides will make you feel right at home.
