Tim Ho Wan

Phil meets Ivan Chung for lunch at the least expensive restaurant with a Michelin star. They eat traditional Dim Sum favorites like congee, pork buns, shrimp dumplings, and shumai. Phil even gets invited back in the kitchen to try and make some pork buns!

Megan’s Kitchen

Phil meets a couple friends for dinner in a private room. Megan’s Kitchen specializes in hot pot. The real show stopper is the century old egg that Phil fearlessly bites, and immediately regrets.

Medicine Street

Phil meets the head of traditional chinese medicine at Hong Kong University for a lesson in TCM (traditional chinese medicine) for a trip to Ko Shing Street, also known as Medicine street. He gets his own unique blend of tea that will help with his “condition.”

Phil meets Matt Abergel (who runs yardbird) and his girlfriend Lindsay. The restaurant is known for yakitori, which is traditional japanese skewered meat cooked over hot coals. They enjoy homemade sake, a bunch of small Japanese dishes that include pickled daikon and kimchi, and even a modern take on the traditional Jewish chopped liver. They also enjoy different types of skewered chicken, and their famous corn tempura.

Sohofama

Phil meets clothing designer, Douglas Young and some of his business partners for a dinner at Sohofama. They eat almost the whole menu, while tasting some amazing cocktails inspired by actual food like congee!

Phil joins Mr. Hip, a tea master, for a cup of tea and a lesson on what tea means to chinese culture. They drink Pu’er tea which is great before bed because it helps you sleep.

San Xi Lou

Phil meets up with Matt Walsh, who says San Xi lou is the most authentic szechuan cuisine in Hong Kong. Szechuan cuisine features szechuan peppercorns, a spice that is not only spicy, but also numbing when eaten. They enjoy pickled chicken feet, ma po tofu, and beef and noodles with bamboo shoots and szechuan peppercorns.

Gateway Cuisine

Phil reconnects with Douglas and his friends from Sohofama for a very unique dinner, where you pick out your meal while it’s still alive! As Phil says, “It’s like an aquarium, but you can eat the exhibit.” They pick out tasty things like shrimp, spiny lobster, razor clams, and giant crab. Local chefs decide how they want to prepare the seafood, and Phil and his friends enjoyed it all.
