Ahi Assassins Fish Co.

Phil’s first stop in Hawaii is Ahi Assassins, an amazing Poke place hidden away at the top floor of a strip Mall. Phil is joined by his friend and chef “Gooch,” alongside owners Erika and Josh. Phil gets a lesson on the meaning of Poke and also gets to taste some of the super fresh fish Hawaii has to offer.

Hanks Haute Dogs

As a way to thank his boat crew-mates, Phil takes the gang to a popular hot dog spot, Hanks Haute Dogs. Served by the man himself, Phil and the guys get to try everything including a bacon wrapped, deep fried, wagyu dog and a Polish dog. To top off an amazing day, Phil receives a very special jersey from the team.

Uncle Clay’s House of Pure Aloha

Phil’s next stop features two of the best treats in all of Hawaii, shave ice, and the man who serves it, Uncle Clay. Served by Uncle Clay’s nephew, Phil enjoys the “strawberry dream” made with all homemade syrups, and a coffee shave ice that is fed to Phil by the man himself, Uncle Clay.

The Pig and the Lady

Phil meets Mama Le, the owner of The Pig and the Lady, a traditional Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Honolulu. Phil enjoys some of the best pho he's ever had, and other traditional Vietnamese dishes.

Phil’s next stop is more of a “high-end splurge place,” run by chefs Anthony Rush and Chris Kajioka. Phil is joined by friend Megan Murphy for a delicious tasting menu including a mouthwatering triple smoked salmon dish.

Mud Hen Water

The next restaurant Phil goes to is Mud Hen Water run by chef Ed Kenney, where he creates modern dishes with the ingredients and traditions of Hawaii. Phil is joined by Uncle Clay and his nephew for some delicious charred octopus and “Pa’i’ai,” which is traditional hand-pounded taro root.

GJ’s Huli Chicken

Phil is joined by his son Ben, for a wonderful outdoors lunch at the famous GJ’s Huli Huli Chicken. Phil and Ben are served by GJ and his son Irvin. Phil and Ben enjoy some mouthwatering pork ribs, beautiful roast chicken, and some very special banana egg rolls.

The Feeding Leaf

Phil finds himself in Kona at The Feeding Leaf , where he learns about Japanese hand food (“Okazu”) from chef Tracey. Phil enjoys a number of tasty small hand food including chicken skin musubi, Tracey’s version of chicken and waffles, and nishime, a Japanese pot stew. Phil’s final treat is Poi, a native Hawaiian paste made from mashed taro stalks which is eaten with two fingers.

Kahua Ranch

Phil’s final stop in Hawaii, Kahua Ranch and sheep farm is located on the northern tip of the big island. Phil gets familiar with the land with head ranch head, Jesse, and then is joined by chef Peter Merriman for a beautiful fire roasted dinner at sunset. Their meal, cooked by Peter’s sous chef Neil, included roast lamb, sweet corn, and fresh fruit salad.
