Washington DC

“Historically, DC hasn't really been known as a foodie destination. But that’s all changed in recent years. I’m telling you, it’s shedding its steak and potatoes reputation with an explosion of new cuisines.”

PHIL'S Washington DC LOCATIONS

Yellow

Phil starts off his DC trip with a food tour of Georgetown! Writer Nevin Martell serves as Phil’s guide, and the first stop is a Levantine inspired cafe: Yellow. Phil tries a peanut butter and coconut foam iced latte, along with a za'atar crusted pastry stuffed with labneh. They then have chicken shawarma and lamb shoulder pitas, alongside gorgeous crispy potato cubes. Make sure you come hungry to this cafe!

Stachowski’s Market

Next up on the food tour is Stachowski’s Market, a butcher shop known for its pastrami. Chef Jamie Stachowski personally makes (and feeds) Phil a beautiful pastrami sandwich. You won’t believe how much beautiful pastrami they stack between the bread, and it tastes even better than it looks.

Baked & Wired

No food tour would be complete without dessert, so the final stop for Phil is Baked & Wired. This bakery has some of the best cupcakes anywhere, but you can also get all sorts of treats and cookies! Make sure to try the OMG bar, a graham cracker base topped with caramel, marshmallow and chocolate.

Address: 1052 Thomas Jefferson St NW, Washington, DC 20007

Rasika

Phil has lunch at one of the best restaurants in DC, Rasika. He’s joined by the editor of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, and CNN’s Jake Tapper. Rasika’s Indian cuisine is second to none, and they have two locations in the DC area. Their crispy baby spinach is a crowd favorite, but you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu!

Ben’s Chili Bowl

Phil takes his son Ben to a DC institution, Ben’s Chili Bowl. They get to meet the co-founder, Virginia Ali, and hear about the rich history of her restaurant. Serving everyone from Martin Luther King Jr to Barack Obama, their delicious half smokes (smoked sausages topped with chili and cheese) have kept DC locals coming back for generations.

Mozzeria

For dinner, Phil meets up again with his son Ben at a very special pizzeria: Mozzeria. Billy introduces Phil to the breakfast program at the school, providing pre-packaged breakfast items and fresh fruit for kids to eat before school. Please consider donating to this incredible campaign, as no kid should have to worry about going to school hungry.

Anju

Chef Kwame Onwuachi takes Phil for dinner at his favorite DC Restaurant, Anju. Chefs Danny Lee and Angel Barreto start their meal off with a selection of banchan, featuring homemade 30-day old kimchi. Then they move on to their biggest hits, Korean style fried chicken and kimchi pork dumplings.
