Bite Into Maine

Phil takes a short 20 minute drive outside of Portland to Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth, home of arguably the most famous lighthouse in America. Located inside the beautiful park, Bite into Maine offers a smorgasbord of lobster rolls: cold/hot with butter, chipotle, wasabi, curried… Come on!

Duckfat Frites Shack

Friend and comedian Alex Edelman joins Phil for lunch at Duckfat Frites shack, which specializes in belgian-style fries fried in duck fat. Phil starts with their duck poutine, topped with a duck egg. Then for dessert, they share a trio of milkshakes, including a Maine blueberry shake and a vanilla shake with duck fat caramel!

Spindleworks

Phil visits his favorite cousin, Anna McDougal, to look at some of her art at Spindleworks! Located in Brunswick, Spindleworks is an art center for adults with disabilities. This beautiful community provides a space for these talented artists to create and sell their artworks. As Phil says, “The arts are not disposable. In fact, they’re the answer.”

Dirty Larry’s Cone Town

After his visit, Phil treats the artists at Spindleworks to some soft-serve at Dirty Larry’s. Anyone who’s a fan of soft-serve ice cream should definitely check this place out. Cones, cups, and uniquely flavored milkshakes make this place a must stop on hot summer day!

The Thirsty Pig

While walking down the street, Phil spots a band playing live music at The Thirsty Pig, and can’t help but try some of their artisanal sausages. Don’t forget to try their homemade hot sauce!

Rabelais: Fine Books on Food & Drink

Phil meets Don Lindgren at his fascinating specialty bookshop, Rabelais. They have antique cookbooks and recipe books, and Don is an expert on Maine’s history!

Palace Diner

Don takes Phil for lunch at his favorite lunch spot, Palace Diner. Opened in 1927, it has always been known as a place for everyone. A compact menu, the diner doesn’t have a ton of options, but everything they do is perfected. Bacon egg and cheese, fried chicken sandwich, smashed potatoes, french toast and flapjacks… This is a great place to get your diner fix!

Brûlée Bike

While taking a bike ride around Portland, Phil is passed by the Brûlée Bike! Charlie Compton started his mobile crème brûlée stand when he was 15, and he bikes around with his blowtorch ready to caramelize his delicious crème brûlée (once he comes to a stop of course).

Red’s Eats

Phil grabs a tray of lobster rolls and plenty of butter for his family, and they enjoy a lovely lobstery lunch. Usually clocking in at a whopping hour and a half line, Red’s Eats world famous lobster rolls are well worth the wait. They’re piled high with meat, and if you only have time for one lobster roll in Maine, you should probably hop in line!

Buckwheat Blossom Farm

This horse-powered organic farm is actually owned and run by Phil’s cousins, Jeff and Amy Burchstead! Phil tries his hand at shearing a sheep, and then gets to relax at a big family dinner. All the meat and vegetables come from the farm, and they really know what to do with it!
