Santiago

“The food is exceptional. The setting is exceptional. But most of all, the people are exceptional… I’m so happy I got to discover Chile.”

PHIL'S Santiago LOCATIONS

Antigua Fuente

Phil kicks off his Santiago trip with a sandwich crawl, starting with food writer Isidora Díaz’s favorite, Antigua Fuente. He has a burger-like sandwich, made with a beef/pork patty and topped with sauerkraut and sauce. If you’re eating one of these, you probably need a fork and a knife!

Address: Av. Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins 58, Santiago, Región Metropolitana, Chile

La Picá de Jaime

For the next stop on the sandwich crawl, Phil and Isidora go to La Pica de Jaime for a couple of gigantic pork sandwiches. Jaime piles his sandwiches high with meat and toppings, and a generous side of mayonnaise.

Address: local 385, Franklin 602, Santiago, Región Metropolitana, Chile

Liguria

For the final stop on their crawl, Phil and Isidora make their way to the beautiful restaurant Liguria. After a couple of cocktails, they share a couple of fried fish sandwiches. Phil says it might be the best fish sandwich ever, and you can only get it at Liguria!

Address: Av. Providencia 1353, Santiago, Providencia, Región Metropolitana, Chile

Boragó

Phil meets Chef Rodolfo Guzmán of the critically acclaimed restaurant Boragó while he prepares a whole lamb in the traditional Santiago style. After one bite, Phil wants to move to Chile. In addition to the lamb, Boragó utilizes unique local ingredients and elevates them in incredibly imaginative ways, solidifying its place as a top 50 restaurant in the world.

Address: Av San Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer 5970, Vitacura, Región Metropolitana, Chile

Ambrosia Bistro

Phil heads to Chef Carolina Bazán and partner Rosario Onetto’s Ambrosia Bistro for dinner. Chef Bazán won the 2019 award for best latin female chef, and Ambrosia Bistro is the more casual counterpart to Ambrosia, also located in Santiago. Phil enjoys a seafood shooter, a white shrimp gazpacho, and a delicious mullet.

Address: Nueva de Lyon 99, Providencia, Región Metropolitana, Chile

Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

Opened in 1880, this is the first art museum in Latin America! Phil stops by to pose with some of the sculptures.

María María

Phil takes a 90 minute drive to the beautiful town of Valparaíso, where he notes the charming winding streets and colorful architecture. He is joined by food photographer and producer Natalia Ellis at one of her favorite restaurants, María María. They share a homemade croissant sandwich with eggplant and cheese, followed by chocolate caramel cookies, and a couple of delicious donuts.

Por Todas

Phil Visits sisters Fernanda and Isidora Vicente, and chef Alvaro Romero at Por Todas, an Olla Común (soup kitchen) that helps to feed the hungry community members in Santiago. Por Todas has a network of 70 Ollas Comunes, where local women prepared food for up to 400 people per day during the pandemic. It’s incredible what this organization has been able to accomplish, and if you would like to help, consider visiting their website and making a donation!

La Calma Restaurante

After visiting Por Todas, Alvaro Romero takes Phil to dinner at Gabriel Layera’s La Calma. This restaurant beautifully represents the quality and freshness of the seafood available in Santiago. They enjoy a platter of clams, oysters, sea snails and more on the halfshell over ice.
